Cobras relegated, Saints stay up

Collendina will be forced to play in A2 Grade of the Bellarine Peninsula Cricket Association next season.

The Cobras will be relegated after St Leonards opened up a nine-point gap between it and Collendina, which is now certain to finish on the bottom of the ladder.

The A2 Grade premiers will replace Collendina in the top flight next season.

Collendina batted well against finals bound Queenscliff, making a competitive 6-152 with Justin Miller again among the runs with a wonderful 53 from 67 balls.

Curtly Balshaw contributed 24 from 31 and the Cobras were suddenly a chance.

Lachie Stott took three wickets for Queenscliff to take his season tally to 23. Stott seems harmless enough while bowling his slow stuff, but in reality he is accurate and very hard to get away, proving to be a crucial cog in the Queenscliff wheel.

Collendina needed early wickets, but it never eventuated.

Lachie Kidd made 88 not out and Tim Frankenburg 49 not out to steer the Coutas home without losing a wicket and with 12 overs to spare.

Queenscliff can still snatch second spot if it beats Ocean Grove and Jan Juc loses to Inverleigh.

St Leonards will spend a second season in the top grade after beating Inverleigh and guaranteeing itself seventh spot on the ladder.

The Sants made 7-168 with consistent opener Kale Hoggins contributing 62 from 100 deliveries and Troy Griffin making a typically hard hitting 31 from 33.

In reply Inverleigh made just 114 with newly turned 20-year-old Cam Egan grabbing another four wickets to make it 30 for the season.

Vastly improved seamer Chris Hockey was again impressive with 1-8 from eight overs.

Ocean Grove got the better of Barrabool – only just – again.

Barrabool made 6-140, but the Grubbers snuck home on the final ball of the day with four wickets in hand. Paul Jubber hit a two off the final ball to give Ocean Grove victory.

It is the second time this season that these two sides have had the result go the full 80 overs.

The gap between Anglesea and the rest of the competition is as wide as it has been all season after the undefeated Seas beat second placed Jan Juc easily.

Dale Kerr got some valuable time at the crease with a splendid 58 not out from 53 balls and Ty Norman continued his excellent season with 36 in Anglesea’s final total of 8-163.

Iva Priest made an impressive 45 from as many deliveries for the Sharks when it was their turn to bat, but they were all out for 114.

Dylan Taylor is in fine form for Anglesea and he took and further four wickets while leggie Joe Lynch returned to form with three.
