Grubbers’ bats set up win

Ocean Grove’s batsmen set up well-crafted win in round two of Bellarine Peninsula Cricket Association A1 Grade on Saturday.

The Grubbers made 4-198 against a plucky St Leonards with Shaun Fankhauser contributing 59 from 96 deliveries, skipper Paddy McKenna 61 off 66 and Mick Thornton who blasted 31 not out off only 18.

Left-arm seamer Daniel Harrison did a great job for the Saints with 2-25 from eight overs.

In reply St Leonards made 6-162 with Andrew Spengler making 42 from 38, Steve Grey 36 from 64 and Taylor Bonner 34 from 52.

Paul Jubber picked up two wickets for Grove while Dan Roddis’ (1-11 from six overs) opening spell proved decisive.

Jan Juc star Ben Grinter made a superb 110 not out as the Sharks completely demolished Collendina.

Mark Zahra made 56 and Jordan Withers made 51 not out as Jan Juc made 1-228.

Charlie Lamb was economical for the Cobras, conceding just 24 runs from his eight overs.

In reply Collendina could manage only 61 with star quick Nicky Smith taking 4-13 from eight overs.

Inverleigh made it two wins in a row, beating Barrabool with Leigh Heazlewood taking 4-23 and David Peel making a patient 37 from 95 balls.

The Queenscliff vs Anglesea match was not played due to a positive COVID case attending Queenscliff’s BWCC match against Geelong West on November 14.

All of Queensliff’s matches were postponed this weekend and the site deep-cleaned and isolation protocols followed.
