For a Mother’s Day present with a difference, tickets are now on sale for Australia’s most successful playwright Hannie Rayson’s latest performance at Drysdale’s Potato Shed venue in May.
Get ready for a funny and personal evening with Australia’s most self-effacing, entertaining playwright and author Hannie Rayson who is thrilled to bring her new one woman show Hello, Beautiful! to the Bellarine on her Victorian tour.
“At last, I’m excited. I can’t wait. I’ve been stuck working at home for years! I’ve been waving my plays off at Tullamarine airport for years – now it’s my turn for an adventure,” she said.
In Hello, Beautiful! Rayson takes stories from her recent book of the same name and adds a few saucy tales that occurred to her later. She brings her childhood in the early ’60s to life and she looks back at her time at the vanguard of the sexual revolution.
The ’70s roll in and Hannie finally moves into student accommodation, where the only place with hot water to clean the dishes was the bath. So the dishes stayed dirty and so did they.
From the early days of Theatreworks which she co-founded, to Hotel Sorrento on every school syllabus, to forays in Hollywood, Rayson presents theatre with humour, soul and biting observation.
In this 60-minute show, Hannie gives an intimate look at her life and hilarious experiences. From the times when real men used to smell of beer to her relationship with journalist Michael Cathcart.
Hannie Rayson is the author of 14 plays. A graduate of Melbourne University and the Victorian College of the Arts, she has an Honorary Doctorate of Letters from La Trobe University. Her plays have been performed throughout Australia and overseas, in English and in translation.
Hello Beautiful! will be performed on Saturday 26 May at 8pm at the Potato Shed, 20-41 Peninsula Drive, Drysdale. Tickets can be booked at the Potato Shed or over the phone on 5251 1998 or at the City of Greater Geelong Customer Service Centre.
