Libby Coker – Australian Labor Party

Corangamite counts down

I have lived in Aireys Inlet for 30 years and am passionate about this region and the people who live here.
I have been a mayor and councillor with the Surf Coast Shire across the past eight years. I have raised my two children here. I have worked in Corangamite as a teacher, journalist and small businesses owner.
I want to fight for a fairer and stronger community in:

  • Job creation and protection of penalty rates.
  • Health, protection of Medicare and affordable doctor’s visits and medicines.
  • Quality education for all children, better resources and more support for teachers in schools.
  • Guaranteed funding of TAFE, support for apprentices with re-investment in your tools for trade, $3000, and ensuring universities are not deregulated by the Liberals leading to $100,000 degrees.
  • A Shorten Labor Government is committed to reducing our impact on the environment with our pledge that 50 per cent of all energy will come not from fossil fuels, but from renewable energy sources, by 2030. Coastal communities are affected by storm surge and sea level rise. We must address climate change.
  • Ocean Grove families will be particularly interested in our commitment to better supporting families with child care costs.

Labor has also committed to plans to upgrade the Barwon Heads Road. Increased capacity on this road will ease pressure on Wallington and Grubb roads.
A Shorten Labor Government will work with the State Government on an integrated approach to tackle law and order – more police, better surveillance, importantly, our youth employment and training program which will tackle rising youth unemployment.
