Grubbers still searching for first win

Three teams remain unbeaten and two are without a win after three rounds of Bellarine Football League this season.

Torquay, Modewarre and Drysdale are the unbeaten sides while Ocean Grove and Portarlington are still yet to get off the mark.

Newcomb caused an upset at Ocean Grove on Easter Saturday, winning by three points in front of a huge crowd.

The Grubbers led at every change by a small margin, but Newcomb snatched victory, 10.10(70) to 9.13(67).

Nathan McDonald and Richie Hollins were superb for the Power while youngster Kye Annand and Mitch Taylor were best for Ocean Grove.

Drysdale made it three from three and hung on by a point against an exciting young Queenscliff team.

Queenscliff led by five goals at half time and by nine points at the last break, but the Hawks were in front at the final siren.

Mitch Scott, in his 200th game, and a hobbling Tom Ruggles (five goals) were best for Drysdale while Caleb Whiteley (three goals) and Riley Martin were superb for the Coutas.

Barwon Heads got onto the winner’s list with a 63-point win against Anglesea.

With Brock Close injuring his hamstring early and several stars on the sidelines, 16-year-old Joe Pike was superb in the ruck in his debut while Sammy Baker was dominant all over the ground. Mitch Phelps booted four for the Seagulls while Dylan Pettingull was named best for the Roos.

Torquay annihilated Portarlington on Good Friday to the tune of 198 points.

The goals were shared around and there were plenty of them – 30 in fact.

Modewarre remained unbeaten after defeating Geelong Amateur by 45 points.

Jeremy Ollis and Josh Finch were best for the Warriors.
