Battle for relegation heats up

The loser of tomorrow’s clash between St Leonards and Collendina will be on the bottom of the BPCA A1 Grade ladder and staring down the real prospect of being relegated.

Collendina is half a game ahead of its opponent, and if the Saints lose, it would take a near miracle to climb above last spot and avoid playing in A2 Grade next season and the dreaded wooden spoon.

St Leonards hosts the game with both sides struggling with the bat this season.

Collendina, though, took it right up to unbeaten Anglesea last week and is in far better form.

Justin Miller had a great game last week with both bat and ball and the general performance with the bat would give the Cobras a lot of confidence.

Jan Juc can cement second spot and a home semi-final if it beats Ocean Grove.

Ocean Grove clings onto fourth spot and a win would go a long way towards playing finals cricket, particularly if fifth placed Inverleigh loses Queenscliff.

Speaking of Queenscliff, second place is not beyond it, but it must win to keep its chances alive.

Barrabool’s very slim finals hopes will come to an official end if it loses to top side Anglesea.
