Torquay displaced Drysdale at the top of the Bellarine Football League for the first time this season with an entertaining 23-point win yesterday.

Not much separated the two sides all afternoon, but Torquay scored when it counted most to win 19.10(124) to 16.5(101).

There is every chance these sides could meet on grand final day. It was Drydale’s first loss in what has been a stellar rise to the top of the competition.

For the Tigers, Mackenzie Burns and Callum Currie were best while Nathan Mifsud booted four.

Drysdale’s Mat Hebbard added five goals and his season’s tally now stands at 65.

Geelong Amateur all but sealed fifth spot and a likely elimination final against Modewarre with a thrilling four-point win against Anglesea.

Ammos are two-and-a-half games clears of Anglesea and Queenscliff on the ladder with four games to go. They face Queenscliff this weekend, before taking on top side Torquay and third-placed Barwon Heads before finishing off with Ocean Grove.

Portarlington kicked its second-highest score of the season, but ocean Grove proved too good, winning by 74, 20.14(134) to 9.6(60).

Former Melbourne skipper Nathan Jones starred, booting the opening goal of the game and finished with two for the day.

But it was Kye Annand and James Paterson that spoiled the party for the Grubbers.

Young tall Annand booted seven in a best afield display while Paterson kicked six to take his tally to 33 this season.

Barwon Heads has its fate in its own hands if it is to take third spot.

The Seagulls demolished Queenscliff by 65 points with Nathan Brown booting five.

The Heads meet Newcomb in a danger game, but should win, and then face another tricky oppponent in Geelong Amateur and finishing off with Ocean Grove and Portarlington. They should win all four.

The Coutas are only an outside chance of playing finals. They would need to beat Ammos this week, Portarlington the week after, which it should, Anglesea in the penultimate round then Torquay.

Modewarre shook of a determined Newcomb to keep the double chance alive. Connor Joseph is one goal away from a half-century this season with a further four while Tom Hornsey also has 49 with a further three.

Modda needs Barwon Heads to stumble in the run home to get third spot.

It also needs to defeat Torquay this weekend. They should defeat Ocean Grove and Portarlington in the next two, but face Drysdale in the final round.

Fourth spot looks to be the best Modda can do.

Newcomb has battled away this season and is fighting right to the end. The Power presents a danger match up to any side in the five in the run home.
