Barwon Heads overcame a persistent Anglesea to notch up its eighth win of the Bellarine Football League season on Saturday June 3.

The Seagulls jumped out to a five-goal lead early and led by 50 points late in the third quarter before Anglesea booted the final three goals of the term to peg the margin back.

Anglesea had two players sent off late in the final term, including coach Jordan Keras, and the Heads went on to win by 36 points in an entertaining and high-scoring game. Final scores Barwon Heads 21.8(134) defeated Anglesea 15.8(98).

Twin towers Brock Close (seven) and playing co-coach Mitch Herbison (four) booted 11 goals between them as the Seagulls proved dangerous in attack. With zippy small forward Sammy Baker set to return from injury in the next few weeks, the Seagulls will have some serious avenues to goal.

Dylan Pettingill (six) and the strong marking Liam Holland (four) proved more than capable options up forward for the Roos.

Defender Kyle Polley and ruckman Luke Davis were standouts for Barwon Heads.

Tom Ruggles booted seven goals for Drysdale in front of a huge Big Freeze day crowd on Sunday.

The Hawks consolidated third spot with a 62-point win against a plucky Newcomb.

Nephew of Fight MND founder Neale Daniher, James Breust booted three goals while Flinn Chisholm and Mitchell Clark also played well.

Charlie Harvey and Richie Hollins were Newcomb’s best while Jude Poyser slotted through three majors.

Tom Hornsey (five) and Connor Joseph (four) combined for nine of Modewarre’s 14 goals against Ocean Grove.

The Warriors were challenged at different stages, but did enough to run out 36-point winners.

Cam Fowler and skipper Joe McDonald were Ocean Grove’s best.

A six goal to none first quarter set up Queenscliff’s 68-point win against Portarlington.

Port improved markedly after the break, but couldn’t contain Daniel De Gois, who booted eight goals, while Mitch Turnbull was superb at the other end of the ground for Port with five majors.

Torquay was too good for Geelong Amateur, running out 57-point winners.

Despite an even first half with only a point separating the two sides, the Tigers slammed on eight third-quarter goals while Ammos were held goalless.

Reef Page kicked four for the Tigers and Jai Sheahan did the same for Ammos.
