Save money on washing

Washing machine rebates are now available for residential customers through Barwon Water to help people be more water efficient and save money.

Eligible customers can apply for a WaterSmart Washing Machine Rebate of up to $250 for an upgraded front-loading washing machine purchased and installed on or after December 1, 2023.

Barwon Water managing director Shaun Cumming said the rebates were an investment in water efficiency projects that would help people save money and water.

“We are looking to support our customers to improve water efficiency and preserve our precious resource,” he said.

“The rebates are available to residential customers who have purchased a minimum 4.5-Star WELS (water efficiency labelling and standards) and 4-Star energy rated front loading washing machine to upgrade their old machine.”

Mr Cumming said people could save close to 26 kilolitres of water, $62 off Barwon Water bills and up to $107 annually in energy savings by upgrading their washing machines.

People must have a property connected to Barwon Water’s drinking water supply, pay a residential water charge, and purchase and install an eligible washing machine on or after December 1.

An original receipt showing the proof of payment for the washing machine must be submitted with the application form, with a maximum of one rebate claim per household.

According to Barwon Water, front-loading washing machines are typically more water efficient than top loaders and could save close to 10 litres per wash.
