Federal Liberal candidate for Corangamite Stephanie Asher has announced a re-elected Morrison government would invest $60,000 towards a new electronic scoreboard at the Portarlington Recreation Reserve.

Ms Asher joined Victorian senator Sarah Henderson, Portarlington Demons Football Netball Club president Stephen Cogger and Greater Geelong council acting mayor Trent Sullivan on Thursday, April 21 to officially switch on lighting upgrades at the recreation reserve during a training session.

The Morrison Liberal government contributed $250,000 to the lighting upgrades as part of a 2019 election commitment.

Ms Asher said the commitment to the proposed new electronic scoreboard would allow for the local community to engage more in local sport and stay active.

“This commitment is just another way my strong plan for Corangamite will keep local communities active and connected,” she said.

“This investment is a real win for local families and the broader community, and the Morrison government will continue to deliver infrastructure to encourage active lifestyles.”

Ms Henderson said the energy-efficient LED lighting upgrades have already made it easier for Portarlington Football Netball Club members play and train at night.

“Sporting clubs are the life blood of every community,” she said.

“I am delighted that the Portarlington community has received this much needed investment.

“The project also supported six jobs during construction, which was a wonderful local employment boost.”
