VicRoads is holding a planning study for the duplication of Barwon Heads Road to reduce congestion and traffic delays.
Victoria continues to have the fastest population growth in the country, and the Armstrong Creek precinct is the largest growth area outside of metropolitan Melbourne.
Armstrong Creek will ultimately accommodate up to 65,000 people and provide 22,000 jobs.
The Victorian Government has committed $3 million for planning a duplication of the Barwon Heads Road between Settlement Road, South Geelong to Lower Duneed Road, Mount Duneed.
The proposed duplication would improve safety for people travelling along Barwon Heads Road and using the intersections into the road, as well as reduce travel times to Geelong and to the coast.
VicRoads has undertaken a series of technical investigations looking at environmental impacts, future community needs, cultural heritage, existing and future transport demands, the regional economy, hydrology and geology implications and land use.
Two stages of the four-stage planning phase have already been completed.
Phase 3 is underway and it will include presenting corridor options to the community and then presenting the findings of the detailed technical investigations.
Stage 4, which will occur early next year will be to select a preferred option and approvals.
VicRoads is inviting the community, stakeholders and other interested people to provide feedback at key stages throughout the planning process. Two information sessions are being held in December and members of the public are invited to find out more about the project, provide feedback on the options and ask any questions you may have about the Barwon Heads Road Upgrade.
The first forum will be at Moolap Primary School on 2 December, from 9am to 1pm, and the second will be at South Barwon Community Cricket Club on 6 December, from 4.30pm to 7pm.
