Juniors have a blast

Wallington Cricket Club has worked hard to almost double the amount of participants in its Friday evening Woolworths Cricket Blast for juniors.

The club has 49 registered participants this season. The concept allows kids under 10 to learn about the game in a fun environment.

Leopold Community Bank has come on board to sponsor the program.

“In these tough times it’s a vital contribution for the club,” president Marc Occhipinti said.

“The funds will be used to continue growing our junior program.

“The club has been focussed on repositioning itself towards an open, inclusive, friendly family club and revitalising the junior program is core to that.”

Wallington had less than 10 participants for the 2018 season and Occhipinti said to have almost 50 this year was an amazing effort.

This has been warmly welcomed by the community, as numbers have increased…laying the platform which will allow us to enter sides in under-11s, under-13s and under-15s over the next three to five years,” he said.

“The obvious benefits will be a flow through to the senior competition, as well as possible women’s sides in the future.”

Wallington’s Cricket Blast is held at Wallington Recreation Reserve from 4.30pm on Fridays.
