Thousands without electricity

Nearly 8500 households in Ocean Grove and 2500 in Barwon Heads have been without electricity since this morning.

After last night’s wild storms, Powercor said that ‘storm activity’ on Wallington Road was responsible for the Barwon Heads blackout and a fallen tree at Grubb Road had cut power to 8470 households in Ocean Grove while 200 residences in Wallington have also been affected.

In Point Lonsdale, 2764 homes were affected when a tree fell on Point Lonsdale Road which also caused 1369 households in Queenscliff to lose power.

Drysdale, Curlewis and Portarlington were only mildly affected with just a handful of cases, Powercor said, although almost 700 homes in St Leonards had been cut off.

In Armstrong Creek, more than 2000 homes had no electricity due to an incident at Denmark Drive, Mount Duneed.

Powercor says it expects to have the situation resolved by 3.30pm in Barwon Heads, 5pm in Point Lonsdale and 6pm in St Leonards. It lists Ocean Grove as 2.30pm.
