POLICE have confirmed that at least three people have died in a plane crash near Ocean Grove on Friday afternoon.
The aircraft crashed into the ocean, about two kilometres off Collendina Beach, just before 12.30pm.
The crash was witnessed by a fisherman who was out on the water at the time, and he subsequently called triple-zero (000).
Three bodies have been located among the wreckage and police believe there may be a fourth – a search is underway.
The plane took off from Moorabbin Airport this morning, however police are not releasing further details about the flight or aircraft until the registered owners have been contacted.
