Muslims all over the world celebrated the end of Ramadan on 24 June, and one local couple made certain that Ocean Grove didn’t miss out.

Lynne Wilson and Muhammad Ahmad, from Lime Leaf Asian Grocery, invited Ocean Grovers to their store for a free day of food to celebrate the end of the fasting month.

A last-minute decision by the state government to abort its plan to allow restaurants and cafes to seat 50 patrons has frustrated some local business owners.

Just days before restrictions were due to be eased to allow up to 50 diners in venues from June 22, Premier Daniel Andrews announced that the 20-person limit would remain because of a spike in COVID-19 cases in the state.

Ocean Grove’s population has increased by more than 5000 people during the past decade, according to Census figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

The town’s population in August 2021 was 17,714, an increase from 12,555 in 2011 and 14,165 in 2016. The population has almost doubled in the last 20 years – in 2001 it was 9992.

Geelong council finalised its 2024-25 budget at its monthly meeting this week, incorporating a raft of changes in response to community feedback gathered since the draft version went out in April.

The changes, worth more than $2.7 million in total, include $432,000 to keep North Bellarine Aquatic Centre open during winter months and an extra $50,000 for Neighbourhood Houses.
