The Portarlington Recreation Reserve could be set for a new electronic scoreboard, if the Liberal Party is re-elected at next month’s election.
Liberal candidate for Corangamite Stephanie Asher made the $60,000 commitment last week while visiting the club.
She said the recreation reserve was a widely used space and the new scoreboard would help promote an active and connected community.
“This commitment is a real win for local families and the broader community and means better facilities for local sporting clubs across the Bellarine,” she said.
“Growing local sporting clubs and community organisation deserve facilities that can keep pace with their needs.”
“This commitment is just another way my strong plan for Corangamite will keep local communities active and connected.”
Ms Asher was joined at the recreation reserve last week by Victorian senator Sarah Henderson to officially switch on its new lightning, which itself was a 2019 election commitment.
The $250,000 upgrade saw the existing six lighting poles replaced with four higher-lux LED lighting poles.
“Sporting clubs is the life blood of every community. I am delighted that the Portarlington community has received this much needed investment,” Ms Henderson said.
“The lighting upgrade with an energy-efficient LED system is already making a major difference to more than 300 Portarlington Football Netball Club members.
“The project also supported six jobs during construction, a wonderful local employment boost.”
