Deck the halls with Christmas trees

Ocean Grove Scout Group will bring festive cheer to Ocean Grove Park with hundreds of Christmas trees available over two big days.

The 1st and 2nd Ocean Grove Scout Group will sell Christmas trees during their annual fundraiser to help support Joey, Cub, and Scout youth members in participating in events and activities throughout the year.

Chairman Ken Harper said the Christmas tree sale was the group’s major fundraiser for the year and that it was a fun time for all of its members.

“The thing I love the most is seeing people turning up and happy to pick what they want for their Christmas tree,” he said.

“We have up to 600 trees to sell…and it’s not like selling raffle tickets or doing a sausage sizzle, as you have a real interaction with the people while they’re there.

“The community is a very big part of scouting…and they’re generally happy because they’re actually here to collect something that’s going to be a joyous occasion.

“The community loves seeing a scout carrying a Christmas tree to their car when they’ve selected one, and there’s no better feeling for us when people are turning up.”

The sale will be held on Sunday 30 November and Saturday 6 December, with people encouraged to come along on either day to select a tree and take it home.

Ocean Grove Scout Group will also offer a pick-up service after Christmas to recycle the tree, with people able to leave their tree out for collection on Sunday 11 January, for a small fee.
