Meet Ocean Grove’s newest gold medal duo Cookie Robinson and Emily Joyce.
The two Ocean Grove Surf Life Saving Club based nippers won the club’s first ever Under 10/11 gold at the Life Saving Victoria South Melbourne state Nipper carnival on 17 February.
The gun duo won the top medal state honour in the Rest and Resuscitation (R & R) event.
South Melbourne played host to State Championship R & R and Belt and Reel final held prior to the Victorian Junior Surf Lifesaving Championships in Warrnambool in March.
Ocean Grove SLSC Club Secretary Lyndie Freestone – the pair’s coach was thrilled for the dedicated youngsters.
Cookie and Emily have dominated the R & R discipline this summer where they claimed victory at the Altona, Frankston and Mordialloc LSV junior carnivals.
“This summer they have won every competition, so they have won three out of three competitions before hand and now they have win gold,” Freestone told the Voice.
“They do this training above and beyond all the other training that they do.
“They go to the same school…they have been practising at school as well marching around at school together – and have had sleep overs and trained at sleep overs.”
Freestone paid credit to ex Ocean Grove SLSC club nipper Zali Foord to her helping Cookie and Emily in R & R discipline.
In other news, Ocean Grove SLSC pair Tom Greer and Merric Platt won bronze in the Under 13 Belt and Reel final.
