More than 150 drivers had anti-theft screws fitted to their number plates for free thanks to several local community organisations.
‘Safe Pl8day’ was held at Bunnings Leopold and organised by Neighbourhood Watch Greater Geelong and supported by Bellarine SES, Bunnings Leopold, Victoria Police (Vic Pol) and Ocean Grove Barwon Heads Lions Club.
“Some types of car were easy to fix and the drivers were on their way quickly, others, well, it took some pretty nifty handiwork to remove the old screws and then somehow, get the anti-theft ones on,” OGBH Lions project coordinator Warren Halnon said.
“Many people were very appreciative of the work done, some even quickly returning with their son’s, neighbour’s, friend’s car to get them also changed.
“You will get another chance soon to go to Bunnings Leopold and have this work done for free as the success of the day has been duly noted by the organisers and everybody who volunteered.”
