One girl is dead after swimming in Ocean Grove

A girl is dead after experiencing difficulty while swimming near Ocean Grove last night.

Police said two girls aged 12 and 13 were swimming in Collendina around 6pm on Tuesday, September 19, when they got into trouble.

Police also said a passer-by entered the water, rescued one of the girls and brought her to shore while a Police Airwing assisted in the return the second girl.

Ambulance Victoria said paramedics treated a man in his 40s, a woman in her 30s and a young female who were taken to the University Geelong Hospital in a stable condition.

CPR was performed on the other girl, but she could not be resuscitated and died at the scene.

Police said the matter was now before the Coroner.
