Enjoy some Carols by Candlelight

Embrace the Christmas spirit in Geelong with the return of the much-loved Carols by Candlelight.

City of Greater Geelong and Y Geelong will host the traditional carols event on Tuesday 23 December at Johnstone Park from 6.30pm.

Carols event coordinator Alisha Nurnaitis said the event was in its 62nd year of celebrating Geelong’s community and local talent.

“I absolutely adore Christmas, so my whole house is decked out for Christmas by November, and I love being with family, which is probably why I love the event so much,” she said.

“It’s an amazing event that will bring joy to the community, and it’s great to be able to provide a free event at a time of year where it can sometimes be hard on families.”

Ms Nurnaitis said she encouraged people to attend the event early to participate in the pre-show activities and secure a picnic spot at the park.

“We have our kids zone starting from 4.30pm, which we debuted last year, and it was a hit, so we’re going to do that again this year,” she said.

“We’re going to add mini golf as well as the animal farm, face painting and photo booth, so there will be just a bit more for the kids to do.

“We encourage people to come down early to grab a seat and check out our pre-show, and then the main event will start at 7.30pm.”

Ms Nurnaitis said she expected close to 5000 people to attend this year’s event, with Santa Claus taking the time out of his very busy schedule to attend the carols at around 8.15pm.

“We hope everyone can come down and check out the event, even just for a little bit,” she said.

“We’ve got some really great things on, and it would be really awesome for the community to come out and support local Geelong talent.”
