Loyal volunteers Matt Dean and Des Every were awarded with life membership of the Ocean Grove Cobras Junior Football Club at the annual general meeting on 14 October.
Dean and Every join Neale ‘Wal’ Walter and Brett Pearson as the club’s only other two life members.
Ocean Grove Cobras Junior Football Club president Shaun Stow said the club’s newest life members were outstanding servants of the broader community and club football program.
“Both Matt and Des are humble people,” Stow told the Voice.
“People don’t probably recognise the amount of work they do behind the scenes.”
Cobras football director Cameron McGregor said when a task needed to be done, the pair would do it without being asked.
“They are the two go to men whenever there is something to be done,” he said.
“They are generally the ones that are already doing it, they don’t need to be asked and go about it quietly.”
Stow said Dean, a local plumber and handyman, is a tireless volunteer of the Cobras.
Dean, the club’s football property manager, has spent numerous voluntary hours as a committee member.
“Anything that needs fixing – he is either doing it himself and managing the solution,” he said.
“He is our maintenance Mr Fixit manager.”
Stow acknowledged Every’s workload was enormous with the Minerva Close Collendina Recreation Reserve base considered his second home.
Every’s roles with the Cobras have included bar manager and junior assistant coach duties.
“It is just his second home for Des and his family,” Stow said.
“He has spent so much time here – no one probably realises the work he does during the week to set things up for the following weekend.”
