Car impounded for alleged “crazy” speeds

A Melbourne p-plater has had his licence suspended after he was allegedly nabbed driving at a “crazy” speed on Wednesday night.

The Geelong Police Eyewatch page shared yesterday the Geelong Highway Patrol unit had detected a Ford coupe driving 135 kilometres per hour in an 80km/h zone on Barwon Heads Road in Connewarre about 11pm Wednesday.

Police intercepted the driver, a 20-year-old Melbourne man on his green p-plates, and impounded the vehicle, which also had two passengers.

The driver also had his driver’s licence immediately suspended.

Police said he would receive a summons to face the Geelong Magistrates Court on excessive speed and driving at a dangerous speed charges.

The incident comes just after police wrapped up Operation Compass, where speeding was one found o be one of the main issues with road behaviour over the past two weeks.
