POLICE charged a 25-year-old Barwon Heads man on his learner’s permit this week for allegedly driving at 120km/h through a 50km/h zone in Ocean Grove.
Police allege the man ignored a stop sign as he sped down Eggleston Street in a green Ford Falcon at noon on 11 May.
Senior Constable Simon McCarty said officers did not pursue the car due to Victoria Police’s pursuit policy.
Police executed a search warrant at a Barwon Heads address the following morning and seized the car under anti-hoon legislation.
They charged the man with driving without learner plates, driving without a licenced driver, disobeying a stop sign, dangerous speeding and driving in a dangerous manner.
He will appear in Geelong Magistrates’ Court at a later date.
Sen Const McCarty said he was disappointed that anyone would put public safety at risk by speeding.
“It’s pretty dangerous at any time of the day, but particularly at lunch time in a busy street,” he said.
Any witnesses are urged to call Bellarine police on 5256 2698.
