Barwon Coast to take over Breamlea campground

Barwon Coast Committee of Management will take over the running of the Breamlea Holiday Park next year.

The City of Greater Geelong has been working with Barwon Coast on a transition of responsibility for the holiday park and adjacent crown land foreshore reserves.

Following an independent review in favour of a transfer, Council in October 2019 supported a change of management to Barwon Coast.

Both organisations are now pleased to announce that Barwon Coast will assume management of the area on 1 April 2022.

Greater Geelong Mayor Stephanie Asher said as the only facility of its kind run by the City, the holiday park would benefit from joining Barwon Coast’s stable of caravan parks and campgrounds.

“With significant knowledge and experience in the tourism sector, Barwon Coast is well placed to oversee all aspects of the holiday park and adjacent coastal reserves,” she said.

“Its operating model will ensure that revenue from the holiday park goes directly into improving its facilities, and to protecting and enhancing the local environment.”

With more than 55 staff, Barwon Coast specialises in caravan park management, tourism accommodation, conservation of natural resources and coastal amenity.

Barwon Coast currently manages 15km of coastal reserves in the region, stretching from Collendina to west of 13th Beach.

It also runs Riverview Family Caravan Park, Riverside Camp Ground and Barwon Heads Caravan Park.

Barwon Coast has committed to capital improvements, outlined in the park’s master plan and to partner with the City in the Bancoora Beach Precinct Plan.

The City will continue to manage the coastal reserves and park until 1 April.

There will be no changes to the operation of the caravan park or reserves this summer.

Barwon Coast CEO Gary McPike said the transfer was scheduled to occur after the peak summer season to ensure a smooth transition for park operations and maintenance of the reserves.
