Former Commissioner and Chief Executive of New Zealand Police, Mike Bush CNZM, has been appointed Victoria’s next top cop.
On Tuesday, the state government announced Mr Bush as the new Chief Commissioner of Victoria Police, replacing Shane Patton who resigned in February.
Mr Bush, who has more than 40 years policing experience, including six as Commissioner of New Zealand Police, will begin his new role on June 27.
Deputy Commissioner Robert Hill will serve as acting Chief Commissioner in the meantime.
“We’ve picked the right person for the job,” said Premier Jacinta Allan in announcing the appointment of Mr Bush.
“Mike Bush will bring new leadership to Victoria Police.
“He made the community safer in New Zealand and he’ll make the community safer in Victoria.”
Police Minister Anthony Carbines thanked outgoing Chief Commissioner Patton as well as interim, Rick Nugent, for their service.
“Shane Patton led Victoria Police members through challenging times and dedicated his life to that service. I thank him, and I also thank Rick Nugent and Robert Hill for stepping up to lead the force in an acting capacity.”
