Have a snag with your councillor

Geelong council is continuing its efforts to engage with the community in less formal settings, holding a free barbecue event open to the public.

Councillors will be joined by Geelong youth councillors at The Nest Youth Hub next Wednesday, May 14 for its Community Conversations event.

The event will include a free barbecue as well as activities for children, offering people the chance to ask questions and present their views about council matters that are open for public engagement.

Issues such as the council’s proposed budget, Revenue & Rating Plan, Integrated Transport Strategy, 2025 Geelong Youth Survey and stormwater management strategies are all on the agenda for the event.

Geelong mayor Stretch Kontelj encouraged the community to get involved in the initiative.

“As a council we are always striving to make Greater Geelong a better place to live, work and play for everyone who calls our wonderful region home,” Mayor Kontelj said.

“We’re always searching for new ways to improve the infrastructure and services we provide, and community feedback plays a crucial role in this.

“This session offers a valuable opportunity for open dialogue between council and the community, where people can raise concerns directly with their ward councillor in a relaxed and friendly environment.

“Come and chat to your councillors about what matters to you and help shape the future of our community.”

The Community Conversations session will take place at 17 Gheringhap Street, Geelong from 4.30pm to 6.30pm. Visit geelong.link/CommunityConversations1 for more information.
