Ocean Grove Surf Life Saving Club has received a $2500 grant from Barwon Water.

Barwon Water’s surf lifesaving sponsorship program was established in 2006 and provides $2500 grants to regional clubs on a rotational basis; $120,000 has been donated to clubs since its inception.

The club used its grant this year to buy rescue boards and life jackets.

Ocean Grove SLSC’s Anna McDonald said the funds had been put to good use.

“The new rescue boards have already been great value to us this summer, and we hope to get much more use out of them throughout the year,” she said.

Barwon Water customers and community general manager Jo Murdoch said Barwon Water was proud of its long association with the region’s surf lifesaving clubs.

“Our surf lifesaving clubs are a vital part of our community, helping visitors to local beaches have a safe and enjoyable experience,” Ms Murdoch said.

Water Minister Lisa Neville welcomed the grant announcement.

“This is a fantastic investment in a critical service,” she said.

“Our lifesaving clubs ensure our beaches are safe for tourists and residents and are run by volunteers.

“This funding helps ensure they have the equipment they need but also frees up time from fundraising.”
