Part of Drysdale’s main street will be closed for more than two months while drainage upgrades take place.
High Street will be temporarily closed from late January to Easter 2026 while the City of Geelong upgrades the existing drainage culvert near De Burgh Road. Detours will be in place via De Burgh Road, Princess Street and Eversley Street.
The project will deliver increased flood protection to upstream properties that are at risk during significant rainfall events.
This upgrade was not scheduled until the completion of the Drysdale Bypass to ensure disruption was minimised, the City said.
Mayor Stretch Kontelj said the upgrade was an important investment in community safety.
“This project will provide greater flood protection for residents in Drysdale, ensuring the community is better prepared for future weather events,” he said.
Leopold Ward Councillor Trent Sullivan welcomed the works and acknowledged the temporary inconvenience.
“The long-term benefits of improved drainage and reduced flood risk will be significant for the community,” he said.
“We understand road works and detours are disruptive, and we appreciate everyone’s patience while these works are carried out.”
