Bellarine ward community members are encouraged to air their concerns or wishes to their councillors as part of a ‘listening post’ session.
Bellarine ward councillors will be available to discuss issues or concerns on Saturday, May 7 along High Street in Drysdale outside the Drysdale Uniting Church from 10.30am until 11.30am.
Greater Geelong deputy mayor Trent Sullivan said the sessions will be a chance to discuss the council’s proposed 2022/23 budget.
“Councillors are looking forward to meeting community members in their wards and running them through the millions in funding proposed for community facilities such as parks, arts hubs and shared trails,” he said.
“These ‘listening posts’ allow us to fully understand the issues that matter most to residents and are part of our commitment to make ourselves more accessible to the community.”
Councillors will be conducting informal discussions with the public about ward-specific funding proposals, as well as any other areas of interest.
Chair of the citizenship and community engagement portfolio Anthony Aitken said the sessions will be a way to gauge the issues which are most important to the local community.
“It’s so important for us to keep our ears to the ground and understand the specific issues that affect each ward,” he said.
“We encourage community members to join us and ask us questions about the draft budget and proposed asset sales and raise any ideas or issues.”
