Crockett elected to council

Phoebe Crockett will take over the vacant Torquay ward councillor position, provided that she formally accepts the position in the next 48 hours.

The Greens-aligned was elected to Surf Coast Shire Council during a second countback today (5 November) to fill a vacancy left by Rebecca Bourke following her resignation in September.

Ms Crockett took the spot over former councillor Martin Duke and has until 10.30am on Friday 7 November to return a written declaration to the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) to confirm she is still qualified to be a councillor.

Ms Crockett identified herself as a “passionate community organiser and environmental advocate, dedicated to ensuring progressive (and) inclusive leadership on the Surf Coast” on her candidacy Facebook page.

Eric Menogue was originally elected for the position during the first countback last week on 28 October, but did not return the written declaration to the VEC.
