Grove Rotary awarded silver

Ocean Grove Rotary has been awarded a ShelterBox Champion Silver Awards for raising three consecutive years of donations of more than $3000 for disaster relief.

More than $578,000 was raised for emergency shelter by Rotary Club Champions over the last year.

ShelterBox Australia, the international disaster relief charity, hosted a special virtual ceremony last week and announced the 128 Rotary Clubs who were recognised with a ShelterBox Champion Award.

Rotary Clubs around Australia joined ShelterBox staff, volunteers and community members as they heard from ShelterBox Australia chief executive Mike Greenslade as he officially announced the winners of the 2024 ShelterBox Champion Awards.

“In a year where many club’s fundraising efforts were hampered because of the cost of living and competing humanitarian needs, the 2024 ShelterBox Champion Award winners are truly deserving of their awards,” he said.

The ShelterBox Champion Awards are an annual event that showcases the dedication and commitment of Rotary Clubs in helping families who have lost their homes to disaster and conflict.

Rotary Clubs that provide three consecutive years of donations receive a bronze award ($1000 per year), silver award ($3000 per year) or a gold award ($5000 per year).

Kardinia and Ocean Grove Rotary Clubs received ShelterBox Champion Silver Awards. Geelong Central and Geelong East Rotary Clubs received ShelterBox Champion Bronze Awards.

“We are inspired by the ongoing support from our Rotary Club Champions and their desire to provide shelter and hope to families affected by disaster around the world,” Greenslade said.

“Together they have raised a staggering $578,000 just in the last year, and for that we are profoundly grateful.”
