Geelong will soon have a new Youth Hub to provide young people with counselling, mental health, employment and general youth support services and programs.
A co-design workshop will be held on March 13 for young people to work together on designing the new hub for those aged 12 to 25 on the corner of Gheringhap Street and Transit Place.
Minister for Youth Natalie Suleyman said the hub will initially be a two-year pilot that young people will design for young people.
“Youth hubs are a one stop shop for health and wellbeing, supports and services, which is why the Allan Labor Government is proud is proud of this partnership with City of Greater Geelong,” she said.
“It is fantastic to see the next steps for this exciting project in Geelong, which will play a key part in engaging young people and keeping them connected to education and work opportunities.”
Construction is expected to start in the middle of this year, with some services available ahead of the hub’s opening in 2025.
Member for Geelong Chris Couzens said the City of Greater Geelong would undertake an extensive consultation process to ensure the future Youth Hub is a safe, welcoming and multipurpose space.
“This is a youth hub for young people, by young people. Putting a youth voice front and centre will ensure the pilot Youth Hub is a safe, fun and interactive place for all,” she said.
The state government’s five-year $1 million investment in Youth Strategy, ‘our promise, your future’ has supported the project.
