The Barwon Heads footballers recently challenged the local cricketers in the annual grudge match at RT Fuller Oval.
This was an opportunity for the local sporting communities to come together.
The Lions Club of Ocean Grove and Barwon Heads served up the food and local businesses Starfish Bakery and Benno’s Meats made generous donations.
The large crowd enjoyed the cricket and the barbecue with the proceeds of $800 going to the local CFA.
Barwon Heads CFA has 30 passionate volunteers. The operational firefighters were called out 89 times last year to a variety of incidents, including vehicle accidents, house fires, gas leaks and grass/scrub fires.
For the past 88 years they have been serving the local community as well as the Bellarine Peninsula.
They also assist throughout Victoria and interstate when called upon for emergencies.
Training takes place on Tuesday nights and Sunday mornings to upgrade skills and knowledge.
The latest advances in equipment and technology are at the forefront of their plans for the future.
Helmet torches and a thermal imaging camera have been recently purchased.
The Lions Club of Ocean Grove and Barwon Heads will continue to support the CFA and local community organisations. Volunteers are the lifeblood of all communities across Australia.
