Morning Showtime at the Potato Shed returns 10.30am Tuesday 8 March, with Your Cheatin’ Heart – the Hank Williams story.

On January 1, 1953, country music songwriter and musician Hank Williams, was found dead in the back of his Cadillac, aged 29. By then, he was country music’s most compelling star, singlehandedly creating a genre from ‘hillbilly music’.

Many artists have covered his songs including Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Charlie Pride and the Rolling Stones.

Posthumously inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1961 and the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970, Williams received further recognition in 1987 when he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

In 2010, the Pulitzer Prize jury also awarded Williams a posthumous citation for his skill in “transforming country music into a major musical and cultural force in American life”.

Join historian and researcher Colin Mockett, supported by musician Allan James, as Colin regales you with the incredible life story of Hank Williams – a story that you need to hear to believe.

Morning tea provided. All tickets $17.
