Construction of the Queenscliff Ferry Terminal is beginning to take shape with the project progressing well and on track to open towards the end of the year.
Searoad Ferries CEO Matt McDonald hosted a site tour this week with Federal Minister for Communications, Urban Infrastructure, Cities and the Arts The Hon Paul Fletcher MP joined by Victorian Minister for Regional Development Mary-Anne Thomas, Senator for Victoria Sarah Henderson, Liberal Candidate for the Federal seat of Corangamite/ City of Greater Geelong Mayor, Stephanie Asher and Borough of Queenscliffe Mayor Ross Ebbles.
Latest works by Kane Constructions include pouring of the first-floor slab, a feat that involved 300 cubic metres of cement transported by 46 concrete trucks.
With funding of $10 million provided by the federal government through the Geelong City Deal – the investment by government, underpinned by the private investment of Searoad Ferries highlights the importance and value that the Queenscliff Sorrento Ferry Service brings to the Bellarine and Mornington Peninsulas.
Once complete, passengers will enjoy world class, modern facilities, safer boarding access, and improved car parking.
“We are very excited to be able to offer a world class facility that will bring significant benefits to ferry customers and visitors alike, including safer access for pedestrians, high quality experiences and improved disability access,” Mr McDonald said.
“The terminal will deliver up to 85 new jobs in the construction phase and an additional 25 new ongoing jobs within the ferry operations.”
Searoad Ferries, car and passenger ferry service sails between Queenscliff and Sorrento, on the southern tip of Victoria’s Port Phillip Bay and is Australia’s busiest vehicle ferry service with over 8200 crossings annually and carrying over 950,000 passengers.
