Operation Barwon begins

Operation Barwon has commenced for the summer and involves local Bellarine Police as well as Water Police and Victorian Fisheries Authority members. The operation will focus on water safety to ensure that people utilising boats, jet skis and other watercraft are compliant with marine safety regulations which will include speed and alcohol restrictions whilst operating craft on the water.

Over 200 persons were spoken to on Saturday with over 40 vessels being checked. A number of penalty notices were issued to persons using unregistered boat trailers.

Further water policing operations will be occurring over the summer and this is a timely reminder for all persons going out onto the water to ensure they comply with marine safety regulations.
