VICTORIAN Premier Daniel Andrews received a celebrity welcome as he visited Ocean Grove Primary (OGPS) today, promoting the State Government’s $4m grant for the school.
Excited students clamoured to high-five the Premier as he approached the school’s gates.
“It’s always good to get welcomed to a great state school like this,” he said.
From there the small crowd of students followed Mr Andrews, and Bellarine MP Lisa Neville, as they toured the school.
The Premier then took questions from a student at a time in a specially set-up green room.
The children asked questions ranging from Mr Andrews’ family life, to how government works.
“This is just like the 7.30 Report,” Mr Andrews said.
“They were great questions – probably more thoughtful than the answers.”
The State Government set aside the $4m in its 2016-1’7 Budget to upgrade the OGPS’s aging buildings.
“The current portable classrooms, they are showing their age,” Mr Andrews said.
“We’re giving students at Ocean Grove Primary the world-class facilities they need to reach their full potential.”
Bellarine Secondary College also received $1.18m from the State Government in the 2016-’17 Budget.
The funding is part of the State Government’s $1.1 billion investment in school infrastructure across Victoria.
Ocean Grove Primary School received a $28,328 equity funding boost this year.
