This year has been very different – so to match that – the Ocean Grove Surf Life Saving Club is running the RT Edgard Rip to River differently.
The 41st Rip to River will be virtual this year – but one thing remains – it is still about participation, enjoyment, having fun, being healthy and active (and supporting the OGSLSC). Participants can register online, and race between 26 December and 8 January, posting their time ‘virtually’ with exciting prizes up for grabs.
This gives participants the chance to do it multiple times with the ability to submit new times every day (if they like), for the single registration fee.
What would usually be OGSLSC’s biggest fundraiser of the year, has been forced to go virtual, but that hasn’t stopped this traditional race that has been on the local events calendar for 41 years.
“We’ve used this year and our virutal Rip To River as an opportunity to get even more people involved. All ages, all abilities and all geographic locations can register online and be part of the 41st Rip to River,” said president Lyndie Freestone.
“And it wouldn’t be possible to deliver this virtual event without the unwavering support of RT Edgar Bellarine, as our gold partners and naming sponsors – and Hotondo Homes, also gold partners and sponsors of our Nipper categories.”

Hotondo 1.4km ‘Overaged Nipper’ – The Ripper Nipper now doesn’t stop at the age of 13 – anyone can have a go. The Overaged Nipper is for everyone up to 80+. We can all now have a go at the most popular race – there is no age barrier.
RT Edgar 5km and 10km wheelchair – Due to the change in location and the move to a virtual environment we are able to open the race to some new participants. We are proud to welcome wheelchair racers.
RT Edgar 20k Rip’nBack – For those who love a longer race, now you have a chance to go longer, further, faster.
