Ocean Grove Surf Life Saving Club competitors warmed up for summer surf carnival competitions after strong performances at Victorian State Team Trials.
More than 30 Ocean Grove SLSC participants took part in the Life Saving Victoria based selection trials held at Torquay Surf beach in overcast conditions and small waves.
Ocean Grove’s Taia Young won the under-15 beach sprint, while star Ocean Grove SLSC under-15 pair Tyler Walsh and Tim Hannan came first and second respectively in the under-15 boys board.
In other events, Ocean Grove SLSC youngster Marcus Bird placed third in the under-14 swim.
Ocean Grove SLSC competition manager Bruce Sampson said it was an excellent club turnout.
“We had a record number of competitors from Ocean Grove trying out,” Sampson said.
“Across the board we were pretty much dominant on ski’s, we saw great results from the junior board paddlers – particularly girl board paddlers.”
Other Victorian-based surf life saving clubs and Melbourne-based life saving clubs to compete included Anglesea, Torquay, Fairhaven, Warrnambool, Williamstown, South Melbourne and Half Moon Bay.
The summer’s first senior carnival takes place at Torquay Surf beach on Saturday 9 December.
