Ocean Grove’s elite junior football depth continues to shine in 2019.
The Grubbers’ Under 19s team won their 10th consecutive match and accounted for St Mary’s by 62 points in their Division Two clash.
Final scores Ocean Grove 10.12 (72) defeated St Mary’s 1.4 (10).
The Grubbers sat in top spot thanks to their 12-1 win loss record after 13 games, which included eight rounds and five grading matches.
Ocean Grove which bridged a three-game gap plus percentage over second-placed Lara, had not lost since going down to Leopold by 46 points in their Round 3 grading game at Leopold on 27 April.
Tom Richardson, Max Sutton and Josh Lange featured in the win and have all tasted senior footy in 2019, while eligible Under 19s players Ben Bennett and Josh Lange played in the senior game against Modewarre on 20 July.
Richardson, who has played with the Geelong Falcons in 2019, was only playing in his third Under 19s game with the Grubbers this year and was a standout with five goals.
Ocean Grove jumped out of the blocks with a four-goal first term and kept St Mary’s scoreless at quarter time.
The home side led the visitors by 33 points at half time in fine and windy conditions.
After half time the Grubbers booted four majors to put the finishing touches on the win.
Jake Hargreaves finished with two goals for the Grubbers.
MEANWHILE on Saturday, Richardson kicked 10 goals in Ocean Grove’s whopping 73-point win over St Joseph’s 2.
It was Richardson’s best return in front of goal since he snared 10 majors and was named best on ground in the Grubbers Under 17s Division 2 premiership victory over Lara last year.
Richardson also had a day out in the Round 9 senior clash this season where he booted nine goals against Portarlington on 25 May.
Final scores Ocean Grove 16.10 (106) defeated St Joseph’s 3.5 (23).
The Grubbers’ win was highlighted by a six-goal second quarter which gave the visitors a 43-point lead at half time.
Jake Powe finished with two goals for the Grubbers.
Ocean Grove Under 19s have now stretched their impressive winning streak to 11 games in 2019.
