Grove pushed again

Ocean Grove had to work hard for a second time this season against Newcomb, coming away with a 42 to 35 win.

With defender Georgia Berry out, it was left to Amanda O’Malley to take star Power goaler Carly Sanders.

Although Sanders shot 21 goals from 27 attempts, O’Malley was named Grove’s best while Gemma Bell and Arlee Bennet (18 goals from 22 attempts) were also very good.

The win kept the Grubbers unbeaten while Newcomb are almost guaranteed to finish 5th, 10 points ahead of Portarlington with three games to play.

Torquay held onto 3rd spot with a commanding 50 to 37 win against Drysdale.

Daisy O’Kane slotted through 38 goals for the Tigers. Torquay is a game and a small amount of percentage ahead of Queenscliff. They have a horror run home, facing Ammos, Queenscliff and Ocean Grove in the final three rounds.

Queenscliff stayed in touch with the top three with a 64 to 22 win against Modewarre.

Jess Rankin was best for the Coutas, who face Portarlington, Torquay and Anglesea to round off the season. It could come down to the Torquay game to see who finishes with the double chance come finals.

Geelong Amateur remains as Ocean Grove’s main rival for the flag after a 47 to 35 win against Portarlington.

With a slightly better percentage, Ammos can still finish minor premiers if they beat Grove in the penultimate game of the home and away season.

Midcourter Sharon Ford was best for Ammos and defender Keisha Guilmartin played another top game.

Barwon Heads got reward for a strong finish to the season with a 57 to 35 win against Anglesea.

Macie Mortlock was superb in midcourt for the Heads.
