Portarlington and Winchelsea are locked in a battle for fourth spot on the Bellarine Peninsula Cricket Association A2 Grade.
Both teams are locked on 48 points, with Winchelsea holding sway in fourth position by percentage.
And both teams face tough final round games to press their case for a finals berth. Port meets top team Drysdale while Winch faces second-placed Armstrong Creek.
Portarlington is steaming home, but may have left its run too late. A powerful performance against Newcomb on Saturday ensured it stayed in the hunt.
Newcomb batted first and was 6-25, but Michael Costello (33 not out) and Naischese Lovett (22) got the score up to 99.
Blake Dobbin (4-16) and Jack Baldi (3-10) did most of the damage.
Port needed just 20 overs to knock off the runs with Alex Jesensek (42 not out), Brenton Toole (29 not out) and David Bullock (23) spending time in the middle.
Winchelsea faced a danger game against Little River and ticked all the boxes.
Matt Partridge took 6-28 and was instrumental in keeping Little River’s total to 7-142.
Ashley Hubbert then took the game away with a superb unbeaten 87 to get Winch home by nine wickets with 10 overs to spare.
Barwon Heads gave itself a chance of sneaking into second spot and a home final with a fighting win against top side Drysdale.
The Seagulls failed to bat out their overs, making 185 all out with seven balls still to go.
James Hodder dug in for 35 from 60 deliveries and Tony Mirabella finished off the innings nicely with 66 off just 45.
It was always going to be a tough chase without skipper Nick Hallam, but Drysdale didn’t go down without a fight, but fell 31 runs short.
Armstrong Creek earned an early finish against Wallington with an eight-wicket win.
Ryan Parkinson ripped through the Wallabies’ order with 5-14, including a hat-trick, as they fell for just 85.
The Titans got the runs in 16 overs with Dylan Flanigan unbeaten on 37 from 45 balls.
Matt Jeffreys could hold his head high for Wallington, taking 2-27 from seven overs.
