Ocean Grove suffered its first loss for the season in the C Grade second semi-final on Sunday, but lived to fight another day.
The Grubbers were beaten by Modewarre by four goals and will now take on Torquay in the preliminary final this weekend to earn the right to have another crack at the Warriors.
Coach Candice Parker said it was a tight game.
“They (Modewarre) played really well,” she said.
“It was an even contest and only a few loose passes and missed goals were the difference in the end really.
“We’ll get back to normal training this week and prepare to take on Torquay as best we can.”
Modda led by a goal at quarter time and stretched it lead to five at the main break and then six at the last change.
Ocean Grove was able to reduce the final margin by two in a 25 to 29 loss.
Parker said Torquay’s height would present its challenges and that losing for the first time on the weekend wasn’t the be all and end all.
“We just have to make sure we have the right defence and drive out of the court,” she said.
“It’s an elimination final now. I guess losing we have had that pressure taken away. We’ve got the nerves out of the way now.”
Ocean Grove was well served by wing attack Alyse O’Keefe.
“She got double teamed a lot and did well to get as much of the ball as she did,” Parker said.
Rory Phibbs was another good contributor and Kellie Morrish worked hard.
Amelia Cunningham and Kate Titheridge both shot 10 goals each.
