Ocean Grove pulled off a stunning extra-time win in the D Grade first semi-final on Sunday.
Locked at 29 goals each, the Grubbers were faced with two five-minute stanzas against Modewarre to decide which side progressed through to this weekend’s preliminary final.
Ocean Grove scored five goals to one in the first period and then four to five in the second to run out winners by three goals.
They will now face Geelong Amateur in the preliminary final with the winner to meet Torquay in the season decider.
Ocean Grove was soundly beaten in the qualifying final against Torquay, which coach Paula Birch said took its toll.
“We were pretty disappointed,” she said.
“Torquay hit us hard. They were pumped and ready. They hit the finals running.”
With the season on the line at the start of extra time in the semi-final, Birch said her players were exhausted.
“It was quite warm as well,” she said.
“We needed to catch our breath and we sat with it for a couple of minutes and then we started to rev ourselves up.
“Everyone was exhausted, but very happy.”
Goal attack Danielle Baker was superb while goal defence Monet New and centre Emma Sinkinson were also outstanding.
“Danielle shoots at huge percentages,” Birch said.
“She shoots around 80 percent and brings a lot of drive in our attack.
“Monet took some absolute ripper clutch intercepts right when we needed them. She really rises to the occasion.
“Emma had some beautiful feeds into the circle and just runs to the right places.”
Birch expects Ammos to be a tough opponent this weekend.
“We expect it to be quite close, but we go into it knowing we can win,” she said.
