Barwon Heads left-armer Alex Quirk took a stunning hat-trick in his side’s Bellarine Peninsula Cricket Association C Grade game against Anglesea on Saturday, prompting an outpouring of emotion for the likeable youngster, who has continued to improve his game at a rapid rate.
Quirk took 4/35 and had dangerman Graeme Dodkins caught on 72 just when he looked like taking the game away from the Seagulls.
Quirk then dismissed Anglesea batters Paul Weight, Michael Harper and Joash Sterrey in consecutive deliveries to help win the game by 18 runs.
Barwon Heads coach and A1 Grade captain Dan Donaldson said when his team returned to the clubrooms after defeating Barrabool at Ceres, the scenes were amazing.
“We came back to the club and Quirky rolled in and there was an absolute ovation,” he said.
“A few people said it was one of the most special days they’ve witnessed. It was good to be a part of it even just to see the reception when we returned to the cricket club.”
