Locals take part in opening surf requal

UP to 100 participants took part in the season’s first bronze medal re-qualification day at the Ocean Grove Surf Life Saving Club on Saturday 12 November.
Ocean Grove SLSC locals were joined alongside members from nearby Bancoora, Thirteenth Beach and Point Lonsdale surf life saving clubs with small clean surf on offer in overcast conditions.
Components of day included theory, demonstrating effective first-aid and CPR, a 400m ocean swim plus surf survival and rescue skills.
“Most of the requals were bronze medallion (and) ocean conditions were favourable,” Ocean Grove SLSC administrator Anna McDonald said.
For those who missed out, other requal opportunities will take place at the following locations:
* Saturday 26 November, at Bancoora SLSC.
* Sunday 4 December, at Thirteenth Beach SLSC.
* Saturday 10 December, at Pt Lonsdale SLSC.
