A surprise return to the court from prolific goalshooter Rebecca O’Neill helped Ocean Grove defeat Queenscliff by eight goals on Saturday.
O’Neill hasn’t played this season, but suited up on the weekend with fellow shooter Zanna Woods out for an extended time through injury.
It was like O’Neill hadn’t stopped playing.
She shot 45 goals from 49 attempts while Arlee Bennett provided great support from 16 from 23.
Ocean Grove won B Grade, 47 to 34 with Isabel Hackett starring and Kimberley Hart scoring 38 goals while Sienna Bruhn was best for Queenscliff.
In C Grade, Ocean Grove won comfortably, 45 to 25. Sofia Dickeson was named best and Maddy Goodger was next with 30 goals.
The Grubbers won the D Grade encounter, 35 to 26 with Maggie Drake, Giselle Dawson and Tina Birch all in fine form. Paula Birch will play her 400th senior game this weekend.
The E Grade side overcame a tenacious Queenscliff 30 to 24 with Ruby Hildebrandt (18 goals), Kylie Collett and Taryn Laverty best.
Queenscliff was too good in the 19 & Under, winning 47 to 8 with Keely Kinsey, Matilda Kidd and Sophie Bradley in great form while Ella McGlynn, Tilly Peace-Teague and Abbey Engelman never gave up for Grove.
In 17 & Under Division 1, Ocean Grove won 33 to 27. Holly Britt (15 goals), Annika Willis (18 goals) and Abhi Sanjeev were best.
The Grubbers won the 17 & Under Division 2 game, 22 to 14 with Charlotte Heenan, Annika Willis and Eve Lake in good form.
Reagan McKenzie was best on court for Ocean Grove in its four-goal win in the 15 & Under Division 1 game.
Estella Sorace, Grace van Maasdyk and Lara Forward were best in the 15 & Under Division 2 side’s 33 to 14 win.
Milla Saltalamacchia, Gemma Best and Ellie Rundle spearheaded Queenscliff’s 33 to 15 win in 13 & Under Division 1 while Allegra Aquilina, Alana Farrow, Zara Wilson were best for Grove.
Ocean Grove doubled Queenscliff’s score in the 13 & Under Division 2 game with Neve Lindsay and Sophia Jankowski named best.
