Queenscliff retained second spot on the Bellarine Peninsula Cricket Association A1 Grade ladder with a 16-run win against fellow finals contender Ocean Grove in round seven on Saturday.
The Coutas batted first and were led by the consistent Tim Frankenburg, who made 58 from 68 deliveries.
Oliver Skurrie scored a patient 39 from 85 and veteran Toby Smith racked up a quick fire 36 from 28 in the final total of 9-187.
Mick Thornton grabbed three wickets for the Grubbers and young debutante Bailey Le Maistre was superb with 2-27 from eight overs.
Paddy McKenna tried his best to lift Grove to a winning total with 66 and at 4-131 they were a genuine chance, but wickets and overs ran out. Lachie Stott grabbed four wickets for Queenscliff.
Barrabool climbed off the bottom of the ladder with a win against Collendina.
Batting first, the Bulls made 9-149 with Kane Pickering getting 73 from 110 balls after a slow start and Jack Purcell 27 from 43. However, they were the only players to reach double figures as Collendina’s bowlers applied the brakes. Charlie Lamb was again miserly with 1-11 from eight while medium pacer Dean Britt chipped in with four wickets.
Collendina put in its best batting performance of the season in reply, making 9-123, falling 26 runs short.
Nathan Frye made 42 from 89, but a trio of ducks in the middle order didn’t help the Cobras’ cause.
Anglesea kept its unbeaten run intact with a comfortable seven-wicket win against St Leonards.
The Saints were 0-56, but three quick wickets from Dale Kerr soon had them on the back foot.
Daniel Harrison was promoted to opener and made a brisk 40 from 37, but the side was all out for 109.
The Seas were in some early trouble at 3-18, but Brett Harding’s 45 not out from 47 and Ash Poulton’s 38 not out from 63 steered the side home.
The loss means St Leonards are now on the bottom of the table and in the relegation spot, but the club will ask that promotion and relegation is scrapped for this season because of Covid. The Saints will table the proposal at tonight’s delegates meeting.
Jan Juc blitzed Inverleigh with all five bowlers taking two wickets each.
Jordy Graham had the amazing figures of 2-2 from eight overs that included six maidens. Out of the 48 deliveries the left-arm seamer sent down, only two were scored from.
The Sharks chased down the 67 runs with ease thanks to Iva Priest, who made an unbeaten 40 from 44 balls.
