Edward Dayman and James Paterson combined for seven goals for the Grubbers.
Torquay disposed of Newcomb as expected.
The Tigers ran out 71-point victors, but would be concerned at their awful kicking for goal. They scored 30 behinds to go with their 14 goals.
Portarlington showed genuine signs of improvement, but was still no match for Queenscliff, which jumped into the five at Geelong Amateur’s expense.
The 81-point win was made possible by Daniel Gibbs and Che Durran, who were great for the Coutas while Max Ruiter and Josh Jones were excellent for Portarlington, which was able to get 15 scoring shots.
